Martin Shkreli: Coming To Your TV!
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK - Netflix (NFLX) has targeted 'Pharma bro' Martin Shkreli for a biopic to be released later this year. The controversial investor/CEO/potential federal prisoner has gleaned fortune and fame from his antics in the market and out of it, however, things haven't been going well for the angular Shkreli as of late.
Martin Shkreli: Punchable!
Reports from Netflix indicate that fierce discussions are taking place to determine who should play the role of Martin Shkreli.
"There are two factions at play right now," said an anonymous Netflix executive. "It's a difficult call. We think this film might be one of the most anticipated movies of the year so we have to get the casting right. Right now, I think we're leaning towards D.J. Qualls, but you never know. Things can change at a moment's notice."
"I've been pushing for Joseph Gordon-Levitt," said another executive. "Did you see him in Looper? They used facial prosthetics to make him look more like Bruce Willis. The only problem is that we'll have to find a way to make him look creepier."
A Darkhorse Emerges
Reports have confirmed that Augustus Prew of the recently cancelled Pure Genius is also being considered.
"He's got much better hair than Shkreli's stringy mop and he's got a kind disposition," said Kat LaBue, a casting specialist with Paramount Studios. "It could work, but he's going to have to be really unlikable to pull off someone as reviled as Shkreli."
Shkreli Plot Disclosed
TrendSmasher has learned that the biopic will focus on the relentless bullying Shkreli likely received as a child as a fulcrum for his metamorphosis from a sweet, unassuming child to an angular and hawkish modern-day version of Ebenezer Scrooge.
The story will follow his unlikely rise from the son of hard-working immigrants to a successful financial wizard to one of the most hated people in America. It will be particularly entertaining to watch how the studio captures his habit of live streaming hours of him doing absolutely nothing and his epic Twitter ban. In 2015, Shkreli was nominated by Raw Story as one of the 11 most punchable faces.
Possible Titles Previewed
According to Netflix insiders, the titles being considered include: Punchable!, Come At Me Bro, Razorface, Do Scoundrels Dream of Technical Indicators?, Short Story, and One Flew Over The Poo-Poos Nest.
"We're open to suggestions," said Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix. "If you tweet your suggestions to @TrendSmasher that would be a big help!"
